In order to win your game, you must be ready to adapt to whatever gets thrown at you. Your business requires a strategy that can be suitably adapted for the changing environment around it so that you can enjoy long-lasting success and prosperity. Look out, then look in. This is the key to an adaptable strategy which in practise entails a combination of steps that will allow you to visualise possible changes to the environment that may affect you, examine the consequences, work out the best possible plan to win and act on it.
Jason Myhill grew up and was educated at the Wartburg Kirchdorf Schools before moving on to the University of Kwazulu Natal where he completed his BSc. in Electronic Engineering in 1998. He completed an MBA from the University of Cape Town Graduate School of Business and also studied Negotiations, International Currencies, Entrepreneurial Finance and Corporate Valuations at the Anderson School of Management, University of California in Los Angeles.
Whilst in high-school Jason rebuilt motor cars as a hobby and during his student holidays he worked in engineering firms. After university Jason explored the process control and business systems industry working for the Titanium Mining Company, Richards Bay Minerals. Working together with and lead by well versed engineers he gained extensive technical and business experience. He also became very good at managing projects. He broadened his scope by consulting to an economic and financial researcher, importers and exporters and went on to start a company in 2003, Dynaminds. It was during this company development process that Clem Sunter and Jason Myhill got to know each other. Clem mentored Jason in his approach to strategy and scenario planning.
Jason’s interactions have ranged from individuals starting new ventures, such as Fitness Network, through to large corporations, such as Impala Platinum Holdings and Grinaker-LTA and industry associations such as SASA, the ITTCC and EIUG. He has facilitated over 300 team conversation sessions. Jason is also entrepreneurial at heart and has invested in a number of business ventures, one of which is called Lumi (Pty) Ltd, www.lumisolar.co.za. Jason is married to Dr Claire Warden, a senior consultant in pelvic floor colorectal surgery at Groote Schuur Hospital and he enjoys the outdoors.
Jason’s strength lies in his ability to translate complex strategic concepts at an executive level into workable solutions at an operational level and visa versa. His “engineering brain” and practical experience allows him to problem solve very well and achieve a viable solution. He is also analytically minded and has an incredible eye for detail. He is able to work from a conceptual point to the completion of a task and ensure that all possible deviations have been thoroughly thought of.
